Sexual intercourse during pregnancy

Intercourse is the basic method of human reproduction. During ejaculation, which is usually accompanied by orgasm in men, a series of muscle contractions to send semen containing male gametes known as sperm cells or spermatozoa into the vaginal space.
Route followed in the vaginal space is through the cervix into the uterus and then into the fallopian tube. There are millions of sperm in each ejaculation, to increase the likelihood of a conception with an egg cell or ovum. Sperm cells can survive up to nine days in a woman's body. When an egg is fertile of women present in the fallopian tube, male gamete joins with the ovum produces fertilization and the formation of a new embryo. When a fertilized ovum has reached the uterus, it will be embedded in the wall of the uterus, known as endometrium and pregnancy begins.
Intercourse or a sexual relationship means that in principle is an act of sexual intercourse performed by humans. But in a broader sense also refers to other actions in connection or replace the act of intercourse, so it is more than merely referring to meetings between male and female genitalia.
Copulation may be preceded by courtship, which causes arousal in the pair, causing penile erection and natural lubrication of the vagina.
To start a sexual relationship, which has erect penis is inserted into the vagina and one or both partners move her legs to make the penis move back and forth inside the vagina and produce friction, without completely removing the penis in full. Thus, they stimulate themselves or partner until orgasm and ejaculation obtained. Penetration with a penis is also known as intromission, or by the Latin name immissio penis.
The term penetration is used to describe a condition in which the male genitalia is inserted into the vagina. It is not always a ritual that required to achieve the pleasure and enjoyment in sex. Sexual activity without penetration is usually acted by teenagers.
In addition to physical changes, women who are pregnant usually have changing needs for attention and intimacy in a relationship with her partner. From the emosianal, pregnant women are more sensitive, and intimacy can already feel them by touch or just talk in private with the couple in bed holding hands, even so sex was not prohibited during pregnancy (IDAI, 2006).
Some things to watch out for the expectant mother and her partner during sexual intercourse are:
a. Woman on top position or a sideways position is comfortable for pregnant women.
b. Before doing a deep penetration, which should take precedence is the convenience and freedom of pregnant women.
c. The use of foreign objects around the vagina or sex aids, as much as possible be avoided.
d. Understanding, empathy, creativity and humor is an aspect that should be there when having sexual intercourse during pregnancy.
e. pregnant women are entitled to say 'No'
f. If you have a high risk pregnancy, penetration and orgasm should be avoided until the doctor declared safe. Stimulation through the nipple should also be avoided in pregnancy conditions like this.
g. Avoid penetration if the water breaks.
h. Sexual contact of any kind should be avoided if the pregnant woman or her partner has been contaminated or exposed to HIV virus. Use condoms if they still want to engage in sexual activity.
According Supriyanto (2009), sexual intercourse or orgasm is not dangerous to infants because of the mucus of the cervix (the cervix) from the mother that help fight germs or infection that will go into the door of the womb. But if it is included in high-risk pregnancies or complications it is estimated there are pregnant women should consult with your healthcare provider before sexual intercourse. There are some cases which require that pregnant women abstain from sex during pregnancy, namely:
a. The threat of miscarriage or a history of miscarriage
b. The placenta lies low (placenta previa)
c. A history of preterm birth
d. Vaginal bleeding or discharge of an unknown cause and cramps
e. Dilation or widening servisk
f. Sexually transmitted diseases
Pregnancy does not mean unable to have sexual intercourse. But getting bigger during pregnancy, it is necessary to choose several positions safe sex. The principle is still able to perform the marital relationship during pregnancy 9 months, unless there are medical reasons and on the advice of health workers not to have sexual intercourse (Supriyanto, 2009).
According Supriyanto (2009), the following is a good sexual positions during pregnancy:
a. The position of all fours
Having sex with all fours position may be comfortable for older pregnant women. This position is not pressing on the abdomen and breasts.
b. Sideways position
At mid-gestation, sex with laterally opposite may be suitable for pregnant women.
c. The position on the flank and leg
The position on the husband to allow pregnant women flanking feet control the depth and angle of penetration in accordance with the husband wants. This position also loosened the pressure on the abdomen of pregnant women.
d. The woman on top
This position is most comfortable for many pregnant women, especially since pregnant women can control the depth of penetration.
e. Sitting position
This position is usually in mid or advanced pregnancy which does not require much movement. Men and women sit on it sat facing each other or back to the man when the stomach is very big. This position also allows her to control the depth of penetration.
f. The position of the man on top but lie
Only half of the body, the position is quite safe from her husband can control themselves, so that his wife still does not suppress stomach.
According Rostiawati (2008), only a few positions that should be avoided during pregnancy. One clear example is to avoid heavy loads, direct pressure on the enlarged uterus, during intercourse.
